Adoption Instructions
A Step-by-step guide for prospective adopters
Complete the Adoption Application
Once you’ve identified an animal(s) you’re interested in, please fill out our adoption application. This helps us understand your home, lifestyle, and expectations so we can ensure a safe, appropriate match.
Speak With an Adoption Team Member for Meet & Greet
Once your application is approved, a team member will reach to discuss the animal’s needs, your household, and any questions you may have. If you haven’t yet spent time with the animal, we’ll arrange a meet-and-greet. This is your chance to interact, observe behavior, and make sure the connection feels right.
Review and Sign the Adoption Agreement
If the match is approved, we will walk you through the Adoption Agreement. This document outlines care expectations, veterinary requirements, and the shared commitment between you and Maybel’s Legacy. If the animal is not yet ready for adoption we will allow you to complete an intent to adopt that will allow us to hold this animal for you until they are ready with the collection of the adoption fee.
Set up the Date to Finalize
We do not like to send our babies directly home with the adopter post-op. Post-op stress is hard enough; adapting to a new environment just adds stress. We will arrange a time to finalize the adoption and allow you to get your baby home no later than that same Saturday.
Pay the Adoption Fee
The adoption fee supports medical care, supplies, and the ongoing work of rescuing and rehabilitating animals. Fees vary by animal and are non-refundable.
Prepare for Going Home
Once the agreement and fee are complete, we’ll provide transition guidance and any available records or supplies. We encourage adopters to plan for a calm, quiet first few days to help their new companion settle in.
Post-Adoption Support
Our relationship doesn’t end at adoption. We remain available for questions, updates, and support. You’ll receive follow-up communication from our team to ensure the transition is going smoothly.
